Boeing says the 737 MAX will be 14 per cent more fuel-efficient than its latest Next-Generation 737s and 20 per cent more fuel-efficient compared to early-build 737NGs. Changes to the MAX over the 737NG include new CFM LEAP-1B engines, aerodynamic enhancements including new winglets, and 787-style large flightdeck displays.

Locally the MAX has been ordered by Virgin Australia which has ordered 23 737-8 MAXes.
