Alice Springs Airport has opened an expansion of its solar power station, the supporting structure for which has provided 98 additional undercover parking spaces.
The new $1.9 million 325kW photovoltaic (PV) system consists of 996 new panels, and was constructed on top of a steel structure that provides shaded, premium car parking.

“Our first solar power initiative was a great success for the business and we’re committed to further developing our solar energy capability, especially when it comes to thinking outside the square to make it happen,” airport general manager Dave Batic said. “This addition to our car park takes advantage of our location to produce enough energy to power 90 homes for a year, and the innovative design means we can also build upon our parking facilities and offer shaded areas as a choice for our customers.”
The 98 additional premium long-term parking spaces are available from $22 per day.

says:Yep Melbourne has a significant greater area of car parking and that wet miserable place called the United Kingdom also mange to build solar power farms. Excuses excuses just like Air New Zealand see the Pacific rim as an opportunity and Qantas see it as a problem.
