Cobham announced the acquisition of the Embraer in September, after signing a contract extension with resources giant Chevron to service Barrow Island through to 2020. The contract extension is worth up to $160 million, and will see the aircraft subject to strict quarantine procedures given the area was a Class A nature reserve and internationally important conservation estate.
Cobham has been flying between Perth and Barrow Island since 2010 and currently uses Avro RJ100 aircraft on the route.
Aviation followers first spotted the Embraer, registration D-AEMG and previously flown by Augsburg Airways in Germany, decked out in Cobham livery in Maastricht in the Netherlands in September. The aircraft’s Australian registration was expected to be VH-NJA.
