It will lift SIA to 31 flights a week to the NSW capital.

SIA reported on March 17 passenger numbers on its Australian and New Zealand routes rose in February, with load factors up 5.2 percentage points to 84.9 per cent in the month “on the back of stronger demand, coupled with capacity consolidation”.

The airline’s South West Pacific region, which covers Australia and New Zealand, was the only part of SIA’s network to report an increase in load factors in February.

“The competitive landscape continues to be challenging. Singapore Airlines will remain nimble to redeploy capacity to better match market demand and promotional activities will continue in relevant markets,” SIA said in a statement.

SIA’s regional wing Silkair was scheduled to begin a new service to Cairns, with the first flight scheduled for May 30.
