The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has opened an investigation into a collision at Moorabbin Airport on April 11.
Piper PA-28 VH-TXH was returning back to Morrabbin Airport after experiencing a “rough running engine” when it overshot the runway and collided with a taxiing Cessna 172. VH-EUU, the ATSB notification said.

The incident caused “substantial damage to both aircraft”, the ATSB said, with three occupants of the Cessna 172 suffering minor injuries.
“As part of the investigation, the ATSB will interview the pilots, obtain air traffic surveillance data and gather additional information,” the ATSB said.
“A report will be released within several months.”
The Cessna 172 was registered to and operated by Oxford Aviation Academy (Australia), according to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) aircraft database.
Meanwhile, the Piper PA-28 was owned and operated by J&J Aviation Ltd, which trades as Moorabbin Flying Services.
