Air Tahiti Nui has confirmed the purchase of two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners due for delivery in 2018 when the airline celebrates its 20th anniversary.
The French Polynesian airline announced the selection of the 787-9 to replace its Airbus A340-300 widebody fleet, which currently fly from Air Tahiti Nui’s Papeete hub to Tokyo Narita, Auckland, Los Angeles and Paris Charles de Gaulle, on February 27.

Air Tahiti Nui chairman and chief executive Michel Monvoisin said the airline was “proud, excited and highly committed” to the successful introduction of the 787-9.
“The Dreamliner order heralds an exciting new era for international travel to and from the world’s most beautiful islands – Tahiti,” Monvoisin said in a statement on Friday.
In addition to the two purchased Dreamliners, Air Tahiti Nui also confirmed two leased 787-9s will join the fleet from Air Lease Corporation.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes senior vice president of Asia Pacific and India sales Dinesh Keskar said: “We are proud to play an integral role in Air Tahiti Nui’s long-term success and look forward to strengthening our partnership as the airline continues to grow.”

says:It is interesting that they don’t fly to Australia, even if it was via Auckland.

says:If you see their schedule to Auckland they feed from and to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane with Qantas/ Emirates. So it kind of makes sense with a small fleet to maximise partnerships. The flight from Auckland to Tahiti carries onto LAX, which is better use of the plane than slugging it out on the Tasman.
