Currently, no airline offers nonstop flights from Dubbo to Brisbane. QantasLink and Regional Express (Rex) fly to Sydney.

Jetgo managing director for airlines Paul Bredereck says the performance the Brisbane-Tamworth service, which began in March, gave the airline the confidence to expand to Dubbo.

Support from Dubbo Mayor Matthew Dickerson also helped sway the airline to begin flights.

“Jetgo had initially adopted a very cautious approach but we have been buoyed by the success of our services on the Tamworth–Brisbane route which although only launched in March is getting tremendous support,” Bredereck said in a statement.

“We were lucky to be allocated additional slots at Brisbane Airport which, these days is a very busy airport and slots are like gold. Initially we were planning to utilise these slots to service another route, however Councillor Dickerson has convinced us to change these plans to Dubbo.”

I have heard this airline is fantastic and offer tremendous service. It’s good to see another company getting the slice of the pie. Keep up the great work.

Another service breaking down the invisible barriers associated with Austraian State borders. We need more of this. For too long intra-state subsidies have artificially constrained services and directed regional centres only towards the State capital. Many regional cities could be connected to other regionals directly, or to interstate capitals and bypass the congestion. Services like Bendigo-Sydney, Dubbo-Brisbane, Toowoomba-Newcastle, Gold Coast-Townsville, Moree-Toowoomba, Tamworth-Brisbane. JetGo should be congratulated for giving some of these services a go. Hopefully they can take on more of these successfully.

Gold Coast-Townsville was once operated by Virgin. Jetstar currently services GC-Mackay and Gold Coast-Cairns.
