Regional carrier Jetgo is expanding its regular public transport (RPT) network to Victoria with nonstop service between Dubbo and Melbourne to begin in late October.

It will be the only nonstop flight from Dubbo to Melbourne, with the new thrice-weekly offering scheduled to run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays with 36-seat Embraer ERJ-135 regional jets.

Jetgo managing director for airlines Paul Bredereck says strong support for the airline’s existing Dubbo-Brisbane service has given it the confidence to launch a second destination from the central western NSW city.

“The daylight saving time schedule is set to commence at the end of October 2015 and we are excited about expanding our direct jet services to Brisbane and to be the first regular passenger operator to directly connect Dubbo to Melbourne,” Bredereck said in a statement.

“We have been very impressed with the demand for the Dubbo to Brisbane services.

“We are confident there is similar demand for Dubbo to Melbourne services and this is a logical expansion of our services.”

Dubbo Mayor Mathew Dickerson said there was demand for a direct service to Melbourne.

“I congratulate Jetgo on listening to the community and taking steps to be in a position to deliver this service,” Cr Dickerson said.

Jetgo said bookings for the flights would be available soon.

Regional Express (Rex) serves Dubbo from Cobar, Broken Hill and Sydney, while QantasLink operates between Dubbo and Sydney.

i have been waiting for this fabulous news. Thank You I have not been able to afford the amount of time or money that it takes to go to Melbourne to see my son n partner for the last few years To be able to hop on a plane n go directly to them is just wonderful n not have to hang around airports or miss connecting flights , u just have to think twice about it. Could u put out some prices n times asap. They also usually hire a car to come to Dubbo because of time n costs …. Will u also be doing any cheap prices during the year if u book in advance. We also have relatives there n my children all went to Melb after uni n it took a day to drive there plus a day to get over the trip. I am sure there r lots of families in the same position these days as Melbourne is such an attractive city for young adults as Sydney is just so expensive n hard to get around Thank you once again

How about replacing the Jetstar flights Mackay to Gold Coast. The A320 s were too large….although they were nearly always 3/4 to 4/5 ths full, each time i flew… which was twice a month for the past year…. I also did a few Tiger trips MKY- Tullamarine and they were chockers!! Can’t see why they abandoned them. Worth considering but I guess economies of scale ( ie large aircraft means lower fares!) . Jetgo could do a quick return mid day trip. OOL- MKY- OOL while the aircraft was waiting ( at Gold Coast) to return to TVE.( Best days are Friday/Sunday/ Monday) PS there are a couple of hundred of us who work in MKY (area) and live on the Goldie! and regularly commute.Lance Courtenay.

That’s great news Jetgo, Melbourne is a great city & I’m so looking forward to the Dubbo to Melbourne flights, i was regularly flying from Newcastle to Melbourne for a get away when i lived in Singleton, Dubbo is a nice place to live BUT! you can’t beat the atmosphere of Melbourne city, the restaurants , St Kilda is fantastic , the museum , the Yarra river , the casino & basically the whole package, so much to do there plus the cloths shopping is the best ,I’m sure more Dubboits will be using the flight service.

Good onya Jetgo, hope you expand your service one day to Hobart, another great place.

    Cheers
    Peter.

Jetgo operate small jets. You are never ever going to get Jetstar or Tiger type fares with 36 seater jets cf. 180 seater jets.

    Convenient yes, cheap not.
