All the instructor’s work to get their charge over the line is often not seen by the student

I got the job!” my former student told me with much enthusiasm. He had finally scored the position that he had been seeking, flying as the first officer with an airline. He was over the moon and with good reason. In turn I was pleased to hear about his success. I was also pleased to hear of his progress in his commercial flying, something that not every flight instructor hears from former students.

‘Jay’ came to me as a student from another school. He had a private licence and could fly a Cessna 172. He told me that he elected to fly at the school that I work at because he felt it had a better attitude and that he selected me as his instructor as he wanted someone with more general experience and with real commercial experience.
