Following flight testing of the first of five Airbus A330MRTTs for the RAAF at Toulouse during May the aircraft is now being modified to Multi Role Tanker Transport configuration at EADS CASA in Madrid. The extensive conversion will see the installation of a centreline retractable boom, underwing hose and drogue pods and reels, new communications equipment and provision of a station for the mission commander. The first aircraft will be delivered in the middle of 2009.

The maiden flight of the first upgraded Lockheed Martin C-5M Super Galaxy took place on June 19 from Marietta, Georgia. Powered by General Electric CF6-80C2 engines and equipped with a digital cockpit, the re-engined aircraft is predicted to save US$20 billion over the fleet’s lifetime.
