Further, the airline plans to run daily services to the two popular Queensland tourist destinations during the Chinese New Year period. The first day of the Chinese New Year is January 28 2017.

There is also a frequency boost for its Hong Kong-Auckland flights, which will operate 10 times weekly between December 2016 and February 2017, Hong Kong Airlines said in a statement on Monday.

All its flights to this part of the world are served with Airbus A330 equipment configured with business and economy class.

The airline is part of Chinese airline and aviation company HNA Group, which is a major shareholder of Virgin Australia.

In May, Virgin and HNA announced plans to form a commercial partnership and alliance, which will also include the Australian carrier mounting flights to Beijing and Hong Kong from June 1 2017 with Airbus A330-200 aircraft from a yet-to-be-announced Australian city.

The proposed tie-up required Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) approval.

Great to see HK Airlines take on the big boys HKG-AKL won’t be hard to beat CX at their so called premium service and I’m sure HKA will be very competitively priced.

    Ryan,

We need the Chinese coming to Australia as our economy collapses. They don’t need our airlines.

I have flown hong kong airlines and I got to say I was really impressed with their service and meals onboard. They spoke very good english and they will be one airline to grow bigger and better for the future.

    Ryan,

The expansion of Hong Kong airlines does not require any extra traffic rights under the current agreement between Australia and Hong Kong. It is not related to the rejection of Jetstar Hong Kong. .
