Qantas will shortly open the doors to its new premium passenger lounge at Brisbane Airport’s international terminal after completing a revamp of the facility.

At the end of June, Qantas closed its previously separate first and business lounges at the international terminal, with construction on the new facility beginning a few weeks later.

In its place is a combined first and business lounge, similar to Qantas’s lounges in Singapore, Hong Kong and a soon-to-open lounge at London Heathrow.

Qantas said the new Brisbane international lounge, which is 30 per cent larger than the previous lounge, will begin accepting passengers from Thursday.

The airline says the lounge is open to, among others, Qantas passengers travelling in business, as well as Qantas Club members and eligible Qantas frequent flyers and oneworld alliance members. (Qantas)

Qantas says the furniture choices are “reminiscent of the reef, sandbars and waterways of Queensland’s coast and inlets”. (Qantas)

It will include an all-day barista bar, a seasonal menu designed by chef Neil Perry and a drinks station called Quench serving non-alcoholic beverages. There are also showers, a business centre, Wi-Fi and what the airline described as a “Sofitel service experience”.

As far as the decor is concerned, Qantas said the design of the lounge tried to represent the natural beauty of Queensland, including the display of indigenous artwork such as a glass and light art installation.

Qantas international chief executive Gareth Evans said the new Brisbane lounge represented a multi-million dollar investment in the passenger experience.

“This lounge marks our continued investment in the entire customer journey,” Evans said in a statement on Tuesday.

“Queensland is one of our most important markets with almost 60 direct international flights departing Brisbane every week. Queensland is where it started for Qantas and we are proud to maintain such a strong presence after 95 years of flying.”

Qantas is also upgrading its lounges at the Brisbane domestic terminal, with the refurbishment due to be completed by early 2017.
