Time to move on from the CASA stalemates
Fire & AG Phil Hurst CEO – AAAA
We look back on 2018 as a challenging year that saw few positive initiatives from government or agencies. While the aviation medical relaxations for Class 1 medicals for aerial application were welcome, and the new Aviation Safety Advisory Panel (ASAP) technical working groups involved in drafting the operational regulations was a fresh take, other low‑hanging fruit for CASA was again left untouched.
The AAAA’s industry-leading chief pilot’s course continues to await CASA approval, despite in-principle support given earlier in the year. Apparently, despite agreement all round, it is languishing in the legal area of CASA, that well-known graveyard of innovation.
