Air New Zealand is donating 8,000 in-flight blankets, now no longer in use, to charities as the airline’s home country heads into winter.
The organisations include the Middlemore Foundation and Kidz First, which provide help to the South Auckland region; Foster Hope, which aims to help children and carers during the initial stages of the foster process; as well as the Red Cross and animal charity SPCA.

It comes after the airline began shipping 2,000 treats, including 190 boxes of Cookie Times and One Square Meal bars, to essential workers in police stations, hospital and charities.
The excess stock has become available after Air New Zealand reduced its domestic services by 95 per cent from pre-coronavirus levels, operating just 43 return flights per week.
Middlemore Foundation chief executive Sandra Geange said, “The donation of the blankets by Air New Zealand is an incredible gesture at a time when it could not be more needed and welcomed.
“We will get these blankets straight out to those who need them the most – the young, the elderly, those with underlying health conditions and those living in unsanitary living conditions.”
