Rex has signed a new expanded contract with aviation IT company Sabre Technology ahead of its launch of capital city flights on 1 March.
The Texas-based company said it was able to provide the upgrade – which covers sales and ticketing systems – quickly to meet Rex’s expand its operations.

“Sabre’s customer-focused reservations system, SabreSonic customer sales and service (CSS), is now providing expanded capabilities to support Rex’s sales and operations procedures as part of Sabre’s commercial platform,” said Sabre in a statement.
“The amplified agreement will provide Rex with new and enhanced capabilities, including an expanded range of IT capabilities across SabreSonic Inventory, Reservations, Ticketing, Ancillaries and Check-in to support Rex in its customer-centric approach as it rapidly expands its fleet and operations.”
Rex deputy chairman John Sharp said, “We aim to grow as the market recovers and, as a result of our existing and long-standing relationship, we know that Sabre is the right technology partner with intuitive and scalable solutions to support us as we move forward with our expansion plans.”
The news comes shortly after Australian Aviation reported how Rex shareholders voted “overwhelmingly” to approve the business’ $150 million investment to launch flights on capital city routes.
Sharp said the approval was the “final major step” allowing the business to fly between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane with an initial fleet of six leased 737s.
“It’s a historic moment for Rex and for Australian aviation, providing Australians for the first time a premium reliable service at affordable fares,” said Sharp. “I’d like to thank all of those involved in getting to this stage. It’s been a challenging year in aviation, and to achieve what Rex has achieved is remarkable.”
Rex and PAG first revealed they were in advanced negotiations in September 2020, after Rex announced its capital city ambitions in May 2020.
The airline will initially operate nine return services a day between Sydney and Melbourne, with sale prices starting at $79.
