The new building has capacity for 200 and the project, which also included runway works and a carpark, was completed less than a year after work began.

The first departing flight will travel to Melbourne while the first inbound arrival will come from Brisbane.

“The new terminal will deliver the comfort and high-quality facilities that commercial airline passengers require and expect,” said mayor Marianne Saliba.

“The new terminal and runways works are part of a $20 million airport business plan strategically developed by council to enable the airport to grow and foster opportunities for economic development and jobs growth that will benefit the whole region.

“The development of an aviation business park is central to the plan. In 2019 we received $15.97 million in funding from the NSW government’s Growing Local Economies Fund, as part of the Regional Growth Fund, for additions and upgrades to the airport.”

Runway upgrades were also completed last year, which included installing new lighting and placing a pavement base for the taxiways. Shellharbour is also home to HARS.
