Revolution Aerospace uses key techniques in compressed sensing, geometric reasoning and deep learning to optimise aerial sensing performance.

Nova Systems has announced it’s signed up its 300th subcontractor company.

The Australian defence and aerospace firm has agreed a deal with Queensland-based Revolution Aerospace, a start-up with a mix of both service and product offerings focused on drones.

“We believe the opportunity to access Nova’s panels and networks alleviates a fairly big business development burden for our company and allows us to concentrate on delivering capability to our clients,” said Revolution Aerospace’s CEO, Dr Terry Martin.

Nova Group CEO Jim McDowell said the company itself had gone through the journey of being an SME and understands what other small businesses need to grow.

“Through our local subcontractor network, we are bringing together a concentration of Australian defence capabilities, enabling us to scale our offerings, creating more choice for the Australian Defence Force,” said McDowell.

Australian Aviation reported in November how Nova appointed Jim McDowell to replace outgoing interim CEO Julie Cooper.

McDowell joined from South Australia’s Department of the Premier and Cabinet, where he served as chief executive since September 2018.

Prior to this, McDowell served as CEO of BAE Systems Australia, where he oversaw the purchase of Tenix Defence.

The incoming Nova Group CEO has also served as in-country CEO of BAE Systems’ $6 billion Saudi Arabian business and has held roles with Bombardier Shorts for 18 years.

“Jim is the right person to lead Nova into the future, ushering in an exciting new chapter of the company’s long and proud history,” Jim Whalley, chairman and founder of Nova Group, said of the appointment.

“He has a proven record of leadership and a breadth of business experience that we believe is critical to lead Nova, including the ability to forge major client relationships and a commitment to our people and the behaviours we want to emulate.”
