Rex has begun progressively rolling out Wi-Fi connectivity systems throughout its fleet of Boeing 737-800NG aircraft, as it prepares to restart flights between capital cities from Monday.
According to the airline, four of its current six 737s have been hooked up with Intelsat 2Ku Wi-Fi systems, with the remaining two to be similarly equipped over the coming months.

Business class travellers on Rex’s capital city routes will enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi connection, while economy passengers will also be able to connect for a small fee.
The airline is also currently offering complimentary Wi-Fi access to economy passengers on aircraft equipped with internet connectivity until the end of November.
Meanwhile, Rex domestic passengers will also have access to new inflight entertainment options onboard its 737 fleet, including a range of TV shows and movies, as well as up-to-date flight and weather information.
“In this day and age business and leisure travellers want to remain connected whether they are on the ground or in the air,” said Mayooran Thanabalasingam, Rex’s general manager of information technology and communications.
The news comes as Rex gears up to recommence its domestic services connecting Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra from Monday, 15 November, as state border restrictions begin to ease.
“As our passengers return to the skies from Monday as we restart our domestic network after the lockdowns, we expect their need for connectivity will be greater than ever before,” Thanabalasingam added.
The airline will be “progressively” ramping up its regional operations throughout NSW and Victoria, also from 15 November, with its fleet of Saab 340 aircraft.
Meanwhile, Rex will restart its Melbourne-Adelaide route from 26 November, following South Australian Premier Steven Marshall’s announcement that his state will ease its border restrictions for double-vaccinated travellers from NSW and Victoria from 23 November.
Rex will also recommence its Melbourne-Gold Coast and Sydney-Gold Coast routes from 17 December, in light of the Queensland roadmap out of border closures, which will ease restrictions with NSW, ACT and Victoria from that date.
