From Qantas blood to a love affair with drones

Bella Richards takes a deep dive into the life of a long-time aviator who was forced to rethink his career after a neck injury and the pandemic.

Peter Jose (pronounced ho-say), 60 years old, from Victoria, has just clicked a button to accept a job at the company he provides freelance work for, Aerologix. He packs his bag – drone, iPad, controller – and heads out the door to a golf course not far away from his home. Jose clicked “yes” to the job because he had some free time and because it was still exciting for him to control a drone with the work of his fingers. He enters the golf course, immediately stunned by its beauty. Before starting his job, he captures a few images of the scenery with his drone (fully licensed and within the correct zone). He then begins his work, taking about 1,000 pictures in semi-automatic mode of a tower 50 metres up.
