The business said the rebranding would come alongside upgrading the 300-ha precinct at Bankstown to include a revamped passenger terminal, new cafe and management office.
It hopes the area will transform into a business and community destination that will contribute more than $1.6 billion and 10,000 jobs to the NSW economy annually.
Bankstown is already home to NSW PolAir, Toll Ambulance Rescue NSW, the Newborn and Paediatric Emergency Transport Service (NETS), and Little Wings alongside flying schools, small to medium air freight, aircraft maintenance, charter and private business flights.
Camden Airport, meanwhile, is a general aviation overflow airport that supports Bankstown and provides facilities for gilding and ballooning. It has one grass and one paved runway alongside two glider airstrips.
During WWII, the government purchased the site, and it became the home of Central Flying School — the main training facility of the RAAF — before later being converted to civilian operations.
Aeria’s CEO Daniel Jarosch said, “Our vision is to create a thriving, diverse destination that connects aviation, business and community, and we are proud to have a new name that reflects that, gives a sense of place as we continue on our exciting journey to become the ultimate gateway.”
The airport group was acquired in 2015 by a super fund, Aware Super.
Its senior portfolio manager, Alek Misev, said, “This is just the latest example of the outstanding value and strong returns we deliver for our members through investment opportunities which can also contribute to the communities in which our 1.1 million members live, work and retire.”
