Qantas has launched the first direct flights between Melbourne and Exmouth in WA, a destination previously only served by QantasLink connections through Perth.

The twice-weekly five-hour flights on Boeing 737 aircraft will operate between Tullamarine and Learmonth Airports from now until October, with a total of more than 18,000 seats to be made available over the tourist season.

According to Qantas Domestic and International CEO Andrew David, the new service will bring an influx of Victorians to the Exmouth and Coral Coast region.

“When we announced this new service, we knew it would be a popular destination for Victorians wanting to enjoy a few days of leisure. The lure of Exmouth’s warm weather, coral reefs and the opportunity to swim with whale sharks has driven strong demand, particularly over the upcoming Winter months,” he said.

“We’re proud to add this route to our map thanks to the support of the Western Australia Government and Tourism Western Australia.”

WA Tourism Minister Roger Cook said Exmouth residents will benefit as well from stronger domestic and international connections to Learmonth.

“This new direct flight will make it even easier for interstate and international visitors to get to Exmouth and experience everything this beautiful region has to offer, and we are delighted to work with our valued aviation partner Qantas, to support this new service and drive strong tourism outcomes for the state,” he said.

Learmonth Airport is co-located with RAAF Base Learmonth, and is currently served by daily QantasLink flights from Perth with two flights on Wednesdays and Fridays.
