Regional carrier Sharp Airlines is adding an extra 4,000 seats per year between mainland Tasmania and King Island.

The additional flights, set to begin on 1 July, will cater for the island’s growing tourism industry as well as its scheelite mine, said CEO Alistair Dorward.
“We have developed and grown our services to meet the expectations of the King Island community, businesses, and corporate travellers, as well as the ever-increasing demand of tourists, golfers, and holidaymakers,” he said.
“In a sign of confidence and support shown to us by the King Island community, Sharp Airlines has become the most significant carrier to the island.
“We do not take the role we play in providing these vital services for granted, and have always strived to deliver excellence in customer service. On-time performance and safety are at the core of everything we do.”
Sharp, based in Victoria, operates 21 Metroliner aircraft across five states, and has flown between King Island and the Tasmanian mainland for twelve years, with flights to both Launceston and Burnie. It also flies between King Island and Melbourne’s Essendon Airport.
The carrier has bases in Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne (Essendon) and Perth, serving scheduled passengers, freight, and FIFO. According to the airline, it carries over 100,000 passengers and 1.3 million kilograms of freight annually across Australia.
