Jetstar will base two of its new Airbus A321neo (NEO) aircraft permanently in Adelaide.
Adelaide will be the first airport outside of Sydney and Melbourne to be a permanent base for the NEOs, which will service domestic routes, as well as flights to Bali currently served by A320s. The NEOs will operate up to two direct Denpasar flights per day, starting on Friday.

Jetstar CEO Steph Tully said the new NEO base in Adelaide is a significant investment in the airline’s local operations, and will boost capacity between Adelaide and Bali by 25 per cent.
“The newest aircraft in our fleet flying non-stop between Adelaide and Bali will add 58,000 seats a year on the popular route allowing more South Australians to access our low fares,” she said.
“The NEO is quieter, more comfortable, uses less fuel, and has up to 46 extra seats per flight compared to the A320 aircraft currently flying between Adelaide and Bali.
“With these two NEOs calling Adelaide home, Jetstar is now the leading carrier between Adelaide and Bali and we’re incredibly grateful to Adelaide Airport for its ongoing support.”
Adelaide Airport managing director Brenton Cox has welcomed the NEOs, which touched down in Adelaide on Thursday afternoon.
“We’re excited that Adelaide Airport travellers will be among the first to experience one of the newest aircraft in the Jetstar fleet and that the aircraft will be permanently based here to serve the Bali route and also domestic routes such as Cairns,” he said.
“In addition, the A321neo is significantly bigger than the A320 previously used on the route, so it’s helping us grow what is one of our most popular routes in our international network.”
According to Jetstar, the NEOs deliver 99.8 per cent mechanical reliability, are 50 per cent quieter than similar size Airbus A320/A321s, and burn up to 20 per cent less fuel. Jetstar will receive another 10 A321neo LR aircraft by the end of 2024, bringing its total neo fleet to 18.
The carrier’s eighth NEO was delivered in June, with the ninth expected by the end of this month.
