A Jabiru light aircraft pilot has been injured after his plane collided with a horse over the weekend.
The 63-year-old man was flown to Royal Adelaide Hospital with severe injuries after the plane crashed into the horse during takeoff on South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula on Sunday.

Emergency services attended the scene at Brentwood at around 9:20am, finding the pilot and his passenger – a 56-year-old woman – had both escaped the two-seater aircraft. The passenger was uninjured, while the horse has since died as a result of injuries it sustained in the crash.
“I’m sorry to say that the horse didn’t recover from its injuries and has had to be put down,” Senior Constable Jen Cullinan told ABC Radio Adelaide.
“So sad news for everybody involved in that incident. I know a lot of people, certainly on socials, were concerned about the welfare of the horse.”
The crash has been referred to Recreational Aviation Australia, with the ATSB unlikely to investigate due to the plane involved being a light aircraft.
Sunday’s crash was the second incident involving a Jabiru light aircraft in the course of three days, with the ATSB launching an investigation into the fatal mid-air collision between a Jabiru J430 and a Piper Pawnee at Caboolture, Queensland, on Friday.
