Logistics company Team Global Express will add four new Boeing 737-800BCF cargo aircraft to its fleet under a new strategic partnership with Texel Air Australasia.

The $480 million, seven-year deal will see four of Team Global Express’ 737-300 and 737-400 aircraft replaced with Texel’s 737-800BCFs under a wet-leasing arrangement, allowing more parcels to be picked up and delivered at regional destinations including Port Hedland, Norfolk Island and Karratha.

The company says a more frequent and efficient schedule will allow more overnight deliveries for its regional customers, with the partnership also supporting 59 jobs including 39 operations roles in Queensland.

“The new freighters will bolster the reliability of Team Global Express’ existing schedule by handling larger shipments and tighter deadlines with ease,” Team Global Express said in a press release.

“Texel’s Boeing 737-800 BCFs boast a 4,000kg increase in cargo capacity per flight from the aircraft they have replaced.

“Additionally, their multi-pallet configuration benefits the express and e-commerce freight market, enabling Team Global Express to offer greater flexibility for customer needs.”

Team Global Express has a total fleet of 40 aircraft and operates 520 domestic cargo flights per week, 430 of which service regional communities. The company also operates intermodal freight transport across road, rail, and sea.

According to Team Global Express CEO Christine Holgate, the planes will offer “greater network capabilities, good value pricing, and community and environmental benefits in the form of quieter, more fuel-efficient operations”.

“The new planes contribute towards a 20 per cent improvement in cargo capacity, which creates a greater carbon saving per parcel. This partnership supports our new e-commerce product, which offers customers unrivalled speed across a single network,” Holgate said.

“Team Global Express is proud to deliver at least one day faster across Australia than any other parcel operator, and we’re confident the new Boeing 737-800 BCFs will enable tighter delivery timeframes via our air routes.

“Team Global Express moves over 100 million items each year across its multimodal network, and our point of difference is that we can rally our whole network during disruptive events such as inclement weather to get our customers’ freight where it needs to be.”
