“Creating a direct link between Brisbane and Melbourne Avalon Airport will provide even more options for Queenslanders wanting to travel to Victoria at an affordable price,” said Jetstar CEO Stephanie Tully.

“Just 45 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, Melbourne Avalon Airport will give customers from Brisbane easy access to the Victorian capital as well as the state’s beautiful Surf Coast region and The Great Ocean Road.

“It’s been 20 years since we first took to the skies, allowing more Australians to travel for less and on the back of strong demand for low-fare travel, we’re expanding our network to the biggest it has ever been.”

Avalon Airport’s executive chairman David Fox has welcomed the new route from what was Jetstar’s original home base when it launched in 2004.

“The launch of the new daily Brisbane service with Jetstar out of Melbourne Avalon Airport is testament to the strength of our long-term partnership with Jetstar,” he said.

“For us, this is more than just a new route—it’s a step towards more opportunities for our passengers and a commitment to opening up of more routes for travellers across Australia.”

The Avalon service is one of five new routes Jetstar has announced from Brisbane in the past year, and Brisbane Airport’s CEO, Gert-Jan de Graaff, has welcomed the additional traffic.

“We’ve seen Queenslanders eagerly embrace low-fare travel. This new route will provide another way for Brisbane residents to explore Melbourne, The Great Ocean Road and Surf Coast region and we look forward to welcoming Victorians flying north to enjoy our glorious winter sunshine,” he said.

Jetstar is now flying more than 100 concurrent domestic routes for the first time in its 20-year history, and Victorian Minister for Jobs and Industry Natalie Hutchins congratulated the carrier on achieving the two-decade milestone.

“This new service between Avalon and Brisbane is a great win for our regional economy and tourism jobs,” Minister Hutchins said.

“Victoria is proud to be the home of Jetstar and to have played a key role in its growth and expansion along the way, as we mark 20 years since it first took to the skies.”
