Qantas and Jetstar are following Virgin’s lead in providing Rex domestic passengers with free flight rebookings.
The Qantas Group released a statement on Wednesday morning after Rex entered administration and dropped its jet operations, calling it a “challenging day for our industry”. Customers will have until 31 August to contact Qantas or Jetstar to rebook.

“We are sad to see Rex enter voluntary administration with the immediate suspension of its Boeing 737 operations. We know this will be a difficult period for many Rex customers and employees and we stand ready to assist,” the Flying Kangaroo said.
“Rex customers impacted by cancelled flights due to the grounding of their domestic jet services can contact Qantas and Jetstar to be reaccommodated on the same route as their original booking at no charge, where we have seats available.
“We are also prepared to connect Rex employees with potential opportunities within the Qantas Group as they go through the process of voluntary administration.”
The Qantas Group’s announcement followed Virgin Australia saying it would rebook Rex passengers for free in a statement made alongside Rex’s administrators on Tuesday night.
Virgin CEO Jayne Hrdlicka said customers should contact Virgin by 14 August.
“Recognising the importance for regional Australians to have access to a comprehensive domestic and international network, Virgin Australia also intends to partner with Rex’s regional business to enable seamless access to Virgin Australia’s domestic and international destinations through potential codeshare or interline arrangements in the future,” she said.
