A QantasLink flight from Townsville to Brisbane was diverted to Rockhampton on Tuesday.

Flight QF1871, operated by Alliance E190 VH-UYR, was operating an early-morning service when a pressurisation issue forced the crew to request a priority landing. The flight touched down safely in Rockhampton at around 7:15am.

According to Qantas, crew followed standard operating procedure in descending to 10,000 feet, where passengers and crew can breathe without oxygen masks, and landing as soon as possible.

“The flight landed normally and we’ll get passengers on their way to Brisbane on other flights this morning,” a Qantas spokesperson said.

“We understand this would have been an unsettling experience for our customers and want to thank them for their patience and understanding.”

Passengers on the flight told Sky News that the issue had only been “minor” and they were quickly on their way after landing in Rockhampton.

“We’d been flying for about half an hour and they just said emergency descent, (it was) nothing major,” a passenger said.

“The pilot kept everybody informed, everybody was nice and calm.”

The incident will now be investigated.
