PHI Aviation in Western Australia has added two new Airbus H175 helicopters to its fleet.

The aircraft, to be based in Broome, will support PHI’s offshore energy transportation activities, as well as search and rescue and medevac operations. The company has three Australian bases in Broome, Exmouth and Darwin.

“These state-of-the-art aircraft are a significant addition to our growing fleet in Australia,” said Cory Latiolais, PHI Aviation chief operating officer, Asia Pacific.

“They elevate our operational capabilities while reinforcing our commitment to sustainable innovation and delivering world-class service to our clients.”

PHI already operates a multi-type fleet, and Christian Venzal, managing director of Airbus Helicopters in Australia and New Zealand, said the new H175s will offer the company superior payload capacity, higher performance and longer range, making the helicopter “ideal for long-range transport across Western Australia’s vast distances”.

“The high performance of the H175 aircraft in the challenging Western Australian environment is an excellent addition for the PHI Aviation fleet, especially with their focus on search and rescue operations, and marine transfers,” he said.

The aircraft feature what Airbus bills as advanced Helionix safety systems, and can be reconfigured for emergency medevac operations from offshore rigs, as well as with hoists for search and rescue.

The H175 has operated in Australia since Babcock Australasia launched the first two in 2017. CASA in June this year granted approval to the smaller 12-seat H160.

“The H175 delivers exceptional comfort and safety for both passengers and the communities it serves,” said Airbus.

The two new helicopters have already entered service, and additional H175s are expected to join the PHI Aviation fleet in Australia over coming months.
