Register #395 | Slowdown after Rex and Bonza collapses

It appears that two airline collapses in 12 months have left the domestic aviation market feeling trepidatious. This edition’s CASA register shows us that fewer-than-usual aircraft changed hands between mid-August and November with just 450 planes added or sold. Of these, just 95 accounted for new registrations – again a smaller number than we have become accustomed to in the post-COVID-19 environment.

Compacting on this, the quarter also reveals a mass plane exodus, with higher-than-usual attrition. A total of 81 aircraft registrations were removed from the register, bolstered by Qantas’ Boeing 717 clearout, and the exile of three more of Rex’s former Boeing 737s.
