Perth Airport has set another capacity record, with more than 1.56 million passengers through its terminals in January.
Perth’s busiest month ever breaks records in both interstate and international passenger numbers set in December and comes after the 2024 calendar year was the best in its history.

“Those [December] records have barely lasted a month with January seeing a record 561,156 interstate passengers, along with a record 515,581 international passengers,” airport CEO Jason Waters said.
“This surge has pushed us to an all-time record of 1,564,605 passengers for a single month. It’s also the first time we have pushed past the 500,000 international passenger mark in a single month.
“West Aussies now have more choice of where to go on holidays, and we are welcoming more international visitors who come to experience all that our fantastic tourism and hospitality sectors have to offer.”
According to Waters, the airport is “well on track” to meet its forecast of 20 million passengers by 2030.
“This makes our multi-billion-dollar investment program to deliver a new runway, new terminal facilities, two multi-storey carparks with major road upgrades, and our first hotel a critical investment in WA’s future,” he said.
“When Perth Airport grows, the Western Australian economy grows.
“We’ve recently engaged the globally recognised engineering, construction, and management firm Bechtel to provide specialist advice to support the delivery of our complex infrastructure program within a live operational environment.”
The January record comes after 16.9 million passengers passed through Perth’s terminals in 2024, 1.6 million more than in 2023.
In total, 56 per cent of Perth’s annual increase in traffic came from additional international passengers, which grew 23 per cent year on year. Regional also performed strongly, growing by almost 7 per cent in 2024, with interstate travel also growing by 6 per cent.
The airport in November also unveiled a new vision for its $5 billion works program, which would bring all flights into the Airport Central precinct.
The fly-through animation shows the airport’s new parallel runway and terminal facilities, as well as other features including its first multi-storey carparks and airport hotel, to be built over the next 10 years in what is being dubbed the “one airport” program.
Perth Airport had reported a $125.4 million net profit after tax for the 2023–24 financial year, with revenue up across the board.
