Australian Aviation: Can you give us an upshot of what the Australian Transport Safety Bureau does?

Angus Mitchell: We are certainly known for our aviation and occurrence investigations, but we also operate in rail and maritime. But we’re also the depository of all the information and data regarding notifications. We collect a lot of data on those three modes of transport. Somewhere around 18,000 individual notifications are made to us every year. We triage that down to about 9,000 separate occurrences, then decide which of those we have the resources to investigate and which will most benefit.
