Register #397 | Trade wars pump the brakes on aircraft sales
As threats of global trade wars sent stock markets into a nosedive, it’s no surprise that Australia’s aircraft trading scene was decidedly slow this quarter, to say the least. Just 408 aircraft were added or traded around the CASA register this quarter, a decline of 0.4 per cent from last quarter, albeit we admittedly started at an unusually low base. On a more optimistic note, the register has grown by a net amount of 8 aircraft since February, with 62 planes being removed this quarter, and 70 new registrations being added.
While we’re on the topic of growth, four brand new Qantas Airbus A321 XLR jets were added to the register this quarter, two bound for mainline Qantas and two for budget arm Jetstar. We already knew the planned tail number of the airline’s first jet – VH-OGA – which entered its final stage of assembly in December last year and rolled out of the Hamburg-based paint shop with its shiny red tail in February. -OGA was officially instated on the register in March, along with another three A321XLRs that have joined OGA on the register as VH-OGB, -OIR and -OYX. Deliveries have been long delayed, but these new additions suggest we could be seeing this at least OGA on Aussie turf shortly.
