TransNusa will expand to double daily services between Perth and Denpasar following the success of its route launch earlier this year.

The airline, which began flying to Perth in March as its first Australian destination, will double its frequency on the route from 18 July, having already expanded to a daily service, and will continue operating its 174-seat A320-200s.

“The increased frequency provides more travel options for West Australians to visit our favourite holiday destination and is a testament to the strength of this market and popular route,” Perth Airport chief commercial and aviation officer Kate Holsgrove said.

“Currently we have 40,000 Indonesian visitors come to Western Australia each year, and with more direct and affordable options, there is significant opportunity to grow our inbound business and leisure visitation from one of our closest neighbours.

“TransNusa will operate the services on its Airbus A320 – and will result in TransNusa providing more than 250,000 seats on this popular route per year.”

TransNusa Group CEO Datuk Bernard Francis said the airline has plans to “further strengthen and enhance its offerings to passengers” and increase their comfort on all flights.

“The move to enhance our customer comfort is part of our plan to grow TransNusa as a secure and caring brand in line with our Premium Service Carrier status,” he said.

TransNusa competes with several other airlines on the lucrative route, including Jetstar, Indonesia AirAsia, and Batik Air.

Perth Airport has, in recent years, recorded all-time passenger traffic highs, with 16.9 million passengers travelling through its terminals in 2024, 1.6 million more than in 2023.

In total, 56 per cent of Perth’s annual increase in traffic came from additional international passengers, which grew 23 per cent year on year.

The airport’s chief executive, Jason Waters, said in January that the increased traffic is a good sign for the state’s economy.

“If Perth Airport is growing, then the Western Australian economy is growing and prospering,” he said.

“We believe there is great potential for further growth in passenger numbers as we move towards a potential 20 million passengers a year by 2030.”
