The second annual Australian Aviation Summit returns in just one week, with leaders set to share exclusive insights in a period of transformation across our aviation industry.

In anticipation of their appearances at the upcoming summit, RMIT University Aviation Academy’s Justin Brownjohn and Newcastle Airport’s Andrew Warrender share the key insights they hope attendees will gain from their exclusive sessions.

Speaking to Australian Aviation ahead of his panel discussion titled ‘Addressing talent shortages in the Australian aviation industry,’ Brownjohn said: “The aviation workforce of tomorrow can’t be built with yesterday’s tools.”

“While flight training has not materially changed over the last 70 years, we are always trying to understand what is the next best, the next optimisation, the next change that can make better leaders and safer aviators.

“We’re not just training pilots or aviation specialists, we’re shaping professionals who will lead safety, innovation, and sustainability in a global aviation ecosystem,” he said.

At the upcoming summit, Brownjohn hopes that “attendees will see how integrated training, academic rigour, industry partnerships, and future-focused thinking create real career readiness.

“The insight we hope to share is that by investing in adaptable, mission-ready graduates, whether for airlines, defence, or industry adjacent business, we are building a pipeline that can withstand disruption and drive progress.

“Education is not an adjunct to aviation—it is its foundation,” he added.

Warrender, who will speak on his observations of the aviation landscape at the summit, said: “We are at a very exciting juncture in the Australian Aviation sector. New aircraft, new international airline partners, new airports, a much bigger population – all mean new opportunity.

“This next era is about growth but a different type of growth from what we have seen before,” he added.

“More point to point, both domestically and internationally, opens a huge opportunity for the industry to enable Australia engaging with the world in a much bigger way.

“For regional Australia, this is a step change. It’s time to work together to realise that step change,” the Newcastle Airport executive said.

The jam-packed agenda will analyse the latest trends and tools emerging within the sector and guide attendees on strategies to distinguish Australia as an aviation leader on the world stage.

Sessions include:

  • Aviation in the Asia-Pacific: Steering low-cost aviation through turbulence and transformation
  • Observations on the aviation landscape
  • Securing Australia’s aviation industry
  • Addressing talent shortages in the Australian aviation industry
  • Partner address – Airservices Australia
  • Propelling aviation towards a more sustainable future
  • Technology and the future of aviation
  • Turbulence and triumph: Steering through aviation’s toughest decade
