China Southern Airlines will boost its Sydney–Guangzhou services to four flights per day over the end-of-year peak.

From 13 December 2025 to 24 February 2026, the carrier, one of China’s “big four”, will add an extra daily return flight between Sydney and Guangzhou, for a total of 74 additional flights and around 44,000 seats over the holiday period.

The CZ8091/8092 flights will operate using the 787-9 Dreamliner, configured with 28 business and 269 economy-class seats.

“We’re proud to keep building Sydney Airport’s role as Australia’s gateway to China, with China Southern Airlines now flying four times a day to Guangzhou. It means more choice and flexibility for people heading to China and beyond,” Greg Botham, group executive for aviation growth and group strategy for Sydney Airport, said.

“China Southern Airlines’ growth in Sydney will help push total seat capacity between Sydney and China to over 53,000 per week by the end of 2025, with the additional services boosting tourism, while delivering new export opportunities for NSW businesses.

“This is a testament to the strength of our partnership, and we thank the team at China Southern Airlines.”

The service, which will offer one-stop connections to cities like Beijing and Shanghai, reflect China Southern’s “ongoing commitment to serving the Australian market and meeting growing travel demand between our nations,” Jason Sun, regional general manager of the airline, said.

“The additional frequencies provide travellers with more options and greater schedule flexibility, whether visiting family, conducting business, or exploring new destinations. We ensure convenient connections through Guangzhou to the rest of the world,” he said.

“As we celebrate 25 years of operations in Sydney, this expansion demonstrates China Southern Airlines’ confidence in the market’s potential. This milestone reinforces our position as a leading carrier connecting Australia and China.

“We look forward to welcoming more passengers aboard and continuing to deliver exceptional travel experiences that bridge cultures and create lasting memories.”

The news comes as China Southern also plans to double its Brisbane–Guangzhou services over the year-end peak.

The carrier will ramp up from seven to 10 weekly Brisbane flights on 17 November, then 14 from 15 December to 22 February, before scaling back to 11 until 2 March. The extra services will be operated by the airline’s A350 aircraft.
