Cathay Pacific has announced that it is adding a number of frequencies to its Australian network under its northern winter schedule.

From November, the carrier will increase the number of services it flies from Sydney to Hong Kong to four times daily, while it will increase the number of services from Perth to 10 times a week. The airline will also add another Brisbane-Cairns-Hong Kong flight, which will take Cairns to daily services and Brisbane to 11 times weekly.

The increase in flights comes even though Cathay says that premium traffic on its Australasian services is not yet back to pre-recession levels. Nevertheless traffic from Brisbane and Perth particularly is tracking above expectations.

Cathay recently has seen a major turnaround in its fortunes, posting a net profit of HK$6.84bn (A$966m) for the first half of 2010. The carrier also announced its intention to order 30 Airbus A350-900s and six Boeing 777-300ERs to bolster its medium and long haul fleets.
