Roller-coaster ride for Pakistan International’s German CEO
These poor old Gulf carriers. Castigated by their big American rivals for allegedly building their success on big subsidies, a claim the likes of Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways are getting a little weary of strongly denying, they’re also being constantly attacked by most of their European and Asian opposition.
Now there’s a new complaint, this time from Pakistan. The German-born chief executive of Pakistan International Airways (PIA), Bernd Hildenbrand, has called on the government in Islamabad to help him out in fighting a price war with the Gulf operators, including putting restrictions on the number of flights they can operate.
