Melbourne Airport has cut the ribbon on a new $70 million elevated road which connects the Tullamarine Freeway directly to Terminal 4.
Dubbed Naarm Way, the road was opened on Tuesday, and provides a new dedicated exit that bypasses all intersections between the freeway and the transport hub at Terminal 4. It is the largest road investment Melbourne Airport has made since Airport Drive opened in 2015.

“We’re making it easier for drivers to access Terminal 4 by removing the need for cars to navigate roundabouts and traffic lights on their way in,” said Melbourne Airport chief of ground transport Jai McDermott.
“This new link will be of particular benefit to passengers flying on Jetstar domestic, Rex and Bonza flights, and we’d encourage people to pay attention to the new road layout as they arrive at the airport.”
Naarm Way is the first of two stages in Melbourne’s elevated road project, which began works in early 2020 in partnership with construction firm Seymour Whyte.
Courtney Hoops, general manager southern region at Seymour Whyte, said the company is glad to have completed the first stage, which was slated to open in 2021 but was delayed by the impact of COVID-19.
“We have enjoyed the collaboration with Melbourne Airport to deliver the first stage of the two-stage elevated road project, whilst minimising impacts and disruptions on passengers during construction,” he said.
The second stage – due for completion in 2026 – has already begun early works, and will include a road connecting Naarm Way to the carpark for Terminal 1, 2 and 3, as well as a pick-up and drop-off zone on levels 2 and 3 of the carpark.
