A total of 23 individuals and organisations received 26 awards at the second annual gala dinner, held at The Star, Sydney, last night (Thursday, 31 August 2023) with the support of principal partner UNSW Sydney.

A total of 145 finalists battled it out for the individual and group awards, while the highest-scoring individual category winner walked home with the prestigious Excellence Award.

This year, Advanced Aviation Training flight instructor Erin Douglas received the award, after being named Recreational Pilot of the Year earlier in the evening.

Representatives from Northrop Grumman Australia, Leidos Australia, Little Wings, and Boeing Aerostructures Australia were also named winners across a range of individual categories.

Rex Airlines and CHC Helicopter (Australia) had double cause for celebration after winning two group awards each, while Advanced Aviation Training returned to the stage to receive a group award (its third award this year).

Other group winners who received recognition for their achievements included Sydney Flight School, Cairns Airport, startup Dovetail Electronic Aviation, and Griffith University.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Australian Aviation’s Adam Thorn said, “A huge congratulations to all of our winners and nominees.

Our winners’ passion shone through and proved the industry is going from strength to strength after a tricky few years.

Over 450 members of the aviation industry attended the awards to cheer their colleagues and network with their peers as well as industry leaders.

They were treated to the comedy stylings of Australian stand-up comedian Vince Sorrenti, who provided entertainment and laughter throughout the evening.

Australian Aviation would like to thank its partners for their invaluable support, including principal partner UNSW; gold partner Air BP; event partner the Civil Aviation Safety Authority; industry partners Aviassist, the Civil Aviation Academy Australasia, Leonardo, and Sydney Flight College; media partners World of Aviation and Australian Aviation; research partner Agile Market Intelligence; and charity partner Invictus Australia.
