Qantas says it has begun discussions with Rolls-Royce over compensation to cover loses from the QF32 Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine failure and subsequent grounding of the airline’s Airbus A380 fleet.
The airline says it has also filed a statement of claim and been granted an injunction by the Federal Court to ensure it can pursue legal action against Rolls-Royce in Australia should a commercial settlement not be reached.

“Today’s action allows Qantas to keep all options available to the company to recover losses, as a result of the grounding of the Airbus A380 fleet and the operational constraints currently imposed on A380 services,” Qantas said in a statement.
The announcement came just hours after the ATSB revealed it had found the likely source of the engine failure, a fatigue crack in a stub pipe that supplies oil to the engine’s high pressure/intermediate pressure bearing structure.
