Learning to survive an air war’s first 10 days

The RAAF deployed seven F/A‑18 ’classic’ Hornets, an E-7 Wedgetail AEW&C and almost 300 operational and support staff to Nellis AFB in Las Vegas in January and February for Exercise Red Flag 14-1.

Red Flag is widely regarded as the most realistic and intense air combat exercise conducted anywhere in the world. The exercise is normally conducted four times a year, but in recent years this has been scaled back due to US defence budget cuts.
