Is this what ultralights will eventually mature to? In view of the emerging disinterest of Wichita in producing small two and four-place light aircraft, due to their very high product liability and production costs, many within the ultralight industry foresee a situation where aircraft such as the Grover Aircraft J6 Karatoo (pictured in montage form) wi/1eventually take over the reins of the 172 and Warrior brigade. Maybe even the Luscombe, Taylorcraft, Cub and Chief will again emerge as the ideal aircraft tor economical leisure aviation. The Karatoo is powered by a 52hp Rotax 503 or an optional 65hp VW (imagine the inherent long-term reliability that such an engine would offer) and can cruise at up to B0kts with a range approaching 200mls. The Karatoo, with VW engine, weighs in at 196kg empty and 173kg with the Rotax and is metal framed with aircraft quality Dacron covering.
