It’s a balmy Friday morning as I alight from the lifts on the 9th floor, Admin 1 Building, Qantas Mascot Jet Base.
I am met at Briefing by Dennis, who aims me towards the technical crew of Qantas 43, bound for Auckland. Captain Peter Brown, First Officer Lloyd Shepard and youthful but experienced Second Officer Bruce McCook. Flight Engineer Ron Cook is already on board our aircraft, VH-EBO, the “City of Elizabeth”, after carrying out his pre-flight walkaround.
Peter and the others introduce themselves and make me known to another Captain, Craig McInnes, an expatriate Canadian, who will dead-head as a passenger on the Sydney/ Auckland Tasman crossing, then fly the aeroplane home.
