The museum, based in Caloundra, is one of 16 organisations receiving grants of up to $1,000 as part of the airport’s inaugural $15,000 Community Support Fund.

Museum president Garry Hills said the grant will be used to help “support and thank” its 460 members, especially the 140 on-site volunteers.

“Every volunteer will be given a 50th anniversary commemorative badge, with the remainder of the funding helping to cover special anniversary events,” he said.

“We want to thank Sunshine Coast Airport which not only plays a significant part in the Sunshine Coast region’s continuing economic growth but also enriches the coast community.”

Queensland Air Museum is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation which last year hosted more than 25,000 visitors, and Hills said he was pleased that the SCA chose to support another aviation business in the Sunshine Coast region.

“We are kindred spirits,” he said.

According to SCA’s general manager people and communications, Kylie Ezzy, the program saw applications from across the region, including Caloundra, Peachester, and Noosa.

Successful submissions all met at least one of the fund’s key criteria: environment and sustainability, health and wellbeing, amazing experiences, connections, opportunity and growth, and pride of place.

“We had some amazing submissions from community groups and organisations who are doing incredible things in the local community,” said Ezzy.

“The $15,000 Community Support Fund is an important way for us to give back. There were many successful community groups and organisations who applied that we had not worked with prior to this program, and speaking with them and learning about their work has been extremely rewarding.

“With so many worthy community groups and organisations, we are excited to continue the Community Support Fund next year.”
