Dr Kimberly Camrass, the aerospace giant’s regional lead on sustainability, will speak on stage alongside the domestic airline’s head of fuel and decarbonisation, Daniel Dott.

It comes as Virgin begins an overhaul of its fleet that will eventually see it shift to flying the more fuel-efficient 737 MAX.

The Australian Aviation Summit, supported by Principal Partner Leidos, will be held on Thursday, 29 August, at The Star in Sydney. Headliners include Western Sydney Airport, Airservices and Google.

Dr Kimberly Camrass’ current role as regional sustainability lead sees her drive Boeing’s efforts to decarbonise aviation across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, focusing on SAF and emerging technologies.

Camrass is also Boeing’s representative on the Jet Zero Council and partners with industry, state governments and the research sector to drive change across the sector.

Before joining Boeing, she worked within the Queensland government to shape initial sustainability planning for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.

Camrass and Dott’s appearance comes as the global sector strives to hit IATA’s target of aviation becoming net zero by 2050.

Sustainable aviation fuels, or SAF, are low-carbon fuels derived from biogenic and non-biogenic sources. They can be blended with traditional fuels and, crucially, do not require changes to aircraft, airport infrastructure or jet fuel supply chains.

However, Australia currently doesn’t produce its own, making it reliant on importing SAF from abroad.

The inaugural Australian Aviation Summit will bring together industry leaders, innovators, and enthusiasts for an unparalleled exchange of new ideas through keynote addresses and panel sessions.

Other high-profile speakers include Western Sydney International’s CEO Simon Hickey, Google Wing’s Jesse Suskin, Australia’s first female airliner pilot, Deborah Lawrie and Airservices’ Australia’s interim CEO, Rob Sharp.

The summit is a platform for networking, collaboration, and education as the industry’s best and brightest share their insights on industry trends, regulatory updates, technological developments, future trajectory, opportunities and challenges, and strategies to propel the domestic aviation sector to new heights.

The Australian Aviation Summit will be held on Thursday, 29 August, at The Star, Sydney.
