 TAA Stop the Guessing Game and Select the A320:

TAA made Airbus Industrie’s year when on December 20 they announced their long awaited order for 9 A320- 200 twinjets. TAA ordered the A320s in preference to the Boeing 757 to cap off a fantastic sales year for Al which saw them write contracts on up to 26 A320 aircraft to Australian operators in 1985.

The first of the new TAA aircraft are due for delivery in April 1989 with six entering service by September 1989 and the final three in May and June of 1990. “TAA has deliberately delayed proposed delivery dates to take advantage of the new IAE V2500 engine which won’t be available till early 1989,” stated TAA Chairman, Mr Neil Smith. The V2500 is a completely new engine which will provide a fuel burn economy of around 7% over other options to help reduce the direct operating costs of the aircraft. We conservatively estimate that our fuel bill in the first ten years’ service will be at least $30m lower because we waited for this particular engine,” stated Mr Smith.
