The first time I saw a Cessna Caravan was whilst on a Company flight to Canberra. Seated in the passenger lounge I heard the unmistakable whine of a turbine engine approaching and on glancing up caught sight of a tall and chunky wing tip taxiing by. To satisfy my curiosity I went out to see what was attached to this large wing. My first impression, and probably the one most people will have, was of a Cessna single with a glandular problem.

The Caravan is a large aircraft, in fact the fuselage dimensions are equal to a GAF Nomad on its side, that is the Caravan’s cabin height is equal to the Nomad’s width and the Caravan’s width is equal to the Nomad’s height. It would be rather difficult to arrive unnoticed in this behemoth and within moments of the large propeller winding down to a stop, interested onlookers appeared from all over the airport to take a closer look. This particular aircraft, serial number 04, was on its Australian demonstration tour and my opportunity to take a closer look would come several weeks later when it returned to Sydney.
