Raaf Black Hawks to Base at Townsville:

The RAAF is planning to base its first Black Hawk unit, No. 9 Squadron, at Townsville. Since 1971, when the squadron was redeployed from Vietnam, the unit has been based at Amberley, west of Brisbane The move will take place during 1989 and additional support facilities will be built at Townsville to assist aircraft maintenance. The move also fies in nicely with Hawker de Havil- land’s recent announcement of the construction of a support facility at Townsville while the presence of the Black Hawks will also provide an on-the-spot boost to the uplift capability of the Rapid Deployment Force.

Hawker Australian Pacific Army Awarded Parachute Contract:

Sydney-based Hawker Pacific has been awarded a $1. 7 million contract by the Australian Army for the supply of 1455 parachutes.
