East West Airlines are certainly thought of amongst the general population as the underdogs in the Australian domestic airline scene. In fact this was a major perception revealed via the May Enquiry. Certainly, EWA proportionally gets more first-timers and infrequent fliers than do the two majors.

It is interesting to see the PR releases pertaining to this but it is even more interesting to see this confirmed first-hand. It occurs red recently on an EWA flight from Canberra to Sydney. The Fokker was loading and an archetypical old lady was searching for her seat. The flight attendant meanwhile approached her to render assistance at which the old lady turned to her and politely said that she could sit down first! This is not only a true story but also true is the fact that I have experienced similar moments on several other occasions with East West.
